Gonna be extremely difficult without a VIN.

You might see if the original dealer has those records. If you are able to track down a VIN, a private investigator can get the owner's information from a state DMV to track down who owns title to the car, if the car still exists. At that point, the PI could contact the individual and ask if it is alright for them to give the owner's contact information to you. Note: The DMV can't give you that information directly because it would be a violation of federal law.

I found my grandfather's 1959 Thunderbird this way.

If you think it might have stayed in your state, and you can get a VIN, then you might have a shot.
