It was very very early in the development, and only a rumor...that it was going to be designed for Cadillacs and V6s only. Which didn't make very much sense then, as a V6 is just as big as an 8, if not larger in some respects.
But the point I brought it up to make, was simply that the architecture is compact. A tight fit. The C7's 7-speed manual didn't fit in the tunnel, as an example.
