I managed to answer my own question by recording amount of fuel used between fill ups. 259 miles, 46.5 litres giving 25mpg for a UK gallon.
It was only after this, that I noticed a feature somewhere in the Settings Menu whereby you can switch between Imperial, US and Metric.
Anyway, the Imperial setting agreed with the above mpg.
