91 octane just doesnt have enough to curb or stop detonation on these engines. 93 really is needed, but if you have E85 in your area you can add 2-3 gallons of E85 to the mix and it will help with detonation and give you a bump in octane for minimal amount of $$$.

One of the things I found when I went supercharged from the shop that did my install is that 91 octane that has E10 in it or even 93 w/ E10 is a good thing with these engines.
I figured if raising the octane a bit by mixing 94 and 91 helps prevent detonation, the ECU should add timing, which usually means a SOTP improvement. Maybe these GDI engines are tuned differently.

I can get E85 from the same gas station but all the warnings about ethanol doing horrible things to the fuel system have kept me away from it.
