Nope, they don't.

The engine has to meet the requirements of the car, generally.

So, I can't stick one of these LS427/570 crate motors in my '16 SS and call it a day. It would technically no longer be legal to drive on public roads.

But some crate engines DO meet today's standards, like the LS3, LT1, LT4, LT5, etc., are crate engines and can be used in modern vehicles and maintain legal road status.

And boats are a whole different story in terms of legality. Has anyone seen Mike Finnegan's big block twin turbo boat?
