I don't recall what the manual says for the V6, but if it doesn't even mention premium fuel, then it's most certainly a waste of money.
There's probably not many cars that can't run on 87 octane. Manufacturers aren't dumb and know that a lot of people will always put 87 in their cars, and they don't want tons of reliability issues because of it.
