This idea is going in the right direction; still a bit sharp-edged though. That's the thing about a muscle car... when the design trend is all sharp edges and jagged angles, it's hard to clear that out of your mind and start thinking in terms of muscles which are curves flowing into curves flowing into curves.

I'm working on pencil sketches of my own idea but I'm not an automotive artist so they're a bit crude and sucky but as I practice they're getting better. Soon as I feel they aren't too embarrassing I'll post them up.
