The glass has a plastic "frame" on the back of the glass. It snaps over the mirror motor to hold the glass in place. There are no tabs or levers to disengage with a tool.

Remove the old glass- Push mirror to the inside. Pull out on glass with hand to disengage plastic frame from mirror motor.

Install the new glass- Center the plastic frame over the mirror motor and push glass with hand to snap into place.

Have any pics of the back of the mirror (glass) or the mirror housing?
When you say "push mirror to the inside" I assume you mean push in (or if power mirror move in) on the glass that is closest to the car, which will provide a point on the outer edge (furthest from car) of the glass to "pop" out the glass?
I want to remove the glass so I can paint the mirrors but am worried I'll end up breaking the glass.
