it's possible, but unlikely, being this new.
I did have a car that had a "leather" steering wheel (in quotes because of that car, not the camaro), that I rubbed my leg on everytime I entered, because of where I kept the wheel.
I did have some pants that marred the wheel up prematurely (at around 12k miles).
I'm not saying that's what is happening here, but it's something to look out for.
