You are probably aware of this, but the factory manual does say that you can just use the temp sensor as the drain plug. I have always done it this way since the actual drain plug is a PITA to reach.

The factory manual also tells you to use some pipe dope on the fill plug after you remove it. Same for the temp sensor. The torque specs on the fill plug and temp sensor are 20 lb-ft according to the factory manual, so it's probably the same for the actual drain plug.
