Chinese valve stem caps

1. Car had those green nitrogen plastic tire valve stem caps when bought. Wife said yuck.

2. Wife ordered nice looking metal valve stem caps off Amazon.

3. I put them on, thought nothing of it.

4. A year later (this week), I noticed tires slightly low.

5. 3 of the 4 metal caps had corroded internally to such an extent I couldn’t get
them off, even with pliers. Thought I’d destroy TPMS sensors trying.

6. Finally got them off by heating them with a blowtorch and one pair of pliers
holding valve stem and the other pair twisting hard. Good thing because this
could have got real expensive according to the tire shop I called.

7. TPMS sensors survived, although I shredded the rubber stem covers
(Re-wrapped them with electric tape).

8. Put a couple knicks / scuffs in the rims from me fighting these damn things.

9. The reviews on these things on Amazon are now very negative as others
have had the same problem over time. Someone else mentioned that metal caps
from Autozone (via China?) did the same thing.

10. Lesson learned. Stick with plastic valve stem caps.
