To me its all about weight. With the 2.0T you get the lightest alpha platform vehicle, and the alpha chassis really doesn't like extra weight. I know because I've owned a 6th gen SS and while its an amazing car it feels heavy. A stock LS 2.0T with a simple tire upgrade is a force to be reckoned with. Doesn't hurt that its the cheapest model and gets incredible gas mileage. There are no real downsides. It isn't for people who need brute force acceleration, though for me 295 lb/ft feels plenty quick.
