So what do you think it is going to weigh? If the car has truly lost close to 300 pounds as stated in very public interview with Al O, the V6 base would weigh under 3,450 pounds. I'd guess an automatic equipped 2LT would weigh 3,500ish or more.
You don't believe it...fine, but this thread is based on what was stated by a high ranking GM exec, so that's what we are going to discuss here.
Anyways...
Something to think about.
The 2009 Nissan 370Z (330HP/270TQ) runs a 13.3 in MT testing with a 6 speed manual, weighing 3,355 pounds. Now, I don't know what the final drive ratio is on that car, but I believe it is numerically higher than the Camaro manual will have. So...add 100 pounds and a more mpg friendly final drive ratio....should equate to 13.5 to 13.7 easy.
The same 2009 Nissan, but with the seven speed automatic weighs 3,368. Ran a 13.1 at 108mph in Car and Driver testing. Again, likely has slightly numerically higher gearing and weighs roughly 100 pounds less. Should equate to around a 13.3 to 13.5 quarter mile for the Camaro....all else being the same.
The 370z has high some high 12 second hero runs on street tires.
As for comparing to the 4th gen. I still give the 4th gen SS (especially manual) the advantage, but it shouldn't be nearly as great of an advantage as the 5th gen V6.
EDIT:
370z 7speed auto has a 3.357 ratio, whereas the new 8 speed V6 will be 2.77. That's a sizeable difference but with the extra gear lessening the ratios between the first 4 gears, I can't imagine it would add more than 1 or 2 seconds to the 1/4...all else being the same. The turbo 4 8 speed will have a 3.23.....maybe a swap to the V6 will be in order lol.
