OnStar

Just picked up a new XT4 for Mrs. Number 3. A very nice vehicle by the way.

OnStar in their "infinite" wisdom now only offers the phone app free for 6 months. After that? $14.95 per month.

On top of that they are so desperate for you to put your credit card on file they would give you 18 months additional app usage for free matching the total 2 years of OnStar if you give them a credit card to put on file. Which only confirms the absolutes of having a GM car....don't give OnStar or XM your credit card.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm a regular user of the app to send directions to the NAV (easier than doing it in the car) and to remote start the car from further than the remote allows. Nice conveniences for me.

But OnStar, it isn't worth $14.95 a month.

We've used OnStar since it's inception starting with our GM company cars and into every car we've owned or leased since leaving GM. But this feels like OnStar is simply desperate to monetize this and they just got lazy and picked the easiest one.....charge for it.

Car Play may be the way from now on.
