For what it's worth, on my 2000 Camaro Z28, the LS1 sat further back than on the 2016. On the 2000, the front of the engine was behind the centerline of the front wheel, if I remember correctly!

On the 2016+, it almost looks like they could have pushed the LT1 back even further, but there's probably a logical reason for why it ended up where it did.
