I've never gotten out of the car to see what's going on when I've felt them get "stuck" like that, but I always assumed it was a wheel off the ground or unloaded to the point it has no traction. I actually felt it last night pulling up a pretty steep driveway at an angle.
I really doubt it's doing anything to disconnect the drivetrain, but maybe the E-LSD isn't locking (for whatever reason) and it's operating as an open-diff. At that point one wheel off the ground = not going anywhere. I'd think that if you gave it some throttle, it would lock up and you'd be able to muscle it up the incline. That's just a theory of course.
