You don't need to. Stop and go traffic is where the EVs excel. You're only using the energy if you're moving, and with every stop you're regenerating. This is why my Volt was such a great commuter. Stop and go you're doubling your range. Anything above 60 mph, and you're effectively wasting your battery.
