I'm going back to Palmer next month and, as long as conditions warrant it, I'll try Sport 2 or Race.
Sport 1 has a lot of intervention still. Had used that mode to warm up my tires at an event a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't believe the throttle lag in certain situations especially coming out of a tight corner. It would not let me scrabble for traction. Instead, it cut the throttle until I was pretty much straight.

Safer yes, but not as fun. Race mode does not do this. As stated above, less intervention.

Everything full off is best if you have the runoff. The car really handles well without the interventions. I thought it would be hard to put down 650 HP, but with a sensitive foot, this car is a sweetheart.

Ps. Without a sensitive foot, I don't believe the nannies can save someone in this car even with interventions. Power can overwhelm the ZL1 no matter what the setting. This is not a car that I will be giving to valets anytime soon.
