I traded in my 2016 Ecoboost Mustang for a 1SS. My insurance went up only 12 dollars with USAA. 4 cylinder to V8. 12 bucks. Gas? I average in my 2017 in the city mixed with occasional spirited runs: 18/23 MPG. Highway? 33/35 MPG. And my MPG is consistent with each fill up. Premium vs regular cost is approximately a 15/20 dollar difference.
My 5th Gen SS couldn't even come close to touching the efficiency of my 6th Gen SS.

As SuperSound said, insurance rates are based on several different variables. Mine went up only $50 from a '09 V6 G8 to my '14 1LE SS but someone else's might go up $100-$200. How are you getting 33-35 mpg on the highway when its only rated at around 25 mpg on the highway? I know the ratings are not exactly accurate but that is a big difference.
