I pretty sure the track time of the ZL1 1LE was a topic of discussion of these privately funded gearheads. They knew they would beat it like everyone knew the ZL1 1LE would be the new ZL1.
They wanted to destroy it, not just beat it since the ZL1 1LE was just in the news over the whole world.
