The Malibu is being redesigned for MY2019. Unlike the cars they are killing off, this is pretty much a done deal with a camouflaged test fleet in the wild.

In MY2019, GM is apparently coming out with a new line I4 engines with larger displacement. I'm pretty confident in saying that a V6 is very unlikely. The current Premier trim with the 2.0L isn't exactly a slouch -- it hits 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, only about half a second slower than the Camaro I4 Turbo.

I'm keeping a close eye on this. The Malibu is on my radar as my next daily unless a crossover like the Fiesta Active in my first post ends up being very nice. Or else get a used Renegade, which have taken a huge depreciation hit way steeper than what's even considered normal, especially considering their popularity. But the interior is not as nice, plus FCA products are kinda shit.
