Wow that really sucks that you have to go through all that.
The grip is textured on the VP9 but I personally like a littler more aggressive or positive grip. Once you decide on the size of the interchangeable panels, consider ordering these :

Also, the VP9 was made to run 124 grain ammo hot. It may have an ejection issue with cheep, lightly loaded,115 grain ammo until the firearm has a few hundred rounds through it. Then it will pretty much digest anything.
Can you even carry a firearm in NY ?
