Anyone running a wastegate or boost restrictor with their Procharger?
On my 02' Z06 I ran a boost restrictor on my P1 kit to limit it to 10psi and the car made great power. 632/570rw IIRC. The tq curve was nice and fat. Almost like a really big N/A stroker. But not as harsh as a PD blower. I can agree with the argument that running restrictor in the air filter could cause increased IAT temps due to friction and what not. I am not really buying the "over spinning" the blower argument. In my mind, what is the difference if the blower is designed to run a determined pulley size if we restrict the intake flow to it or bleed it off in the end. I know ECS kits are sent out with restrictors. I just installed and tuned one on a C7 the other day and it made a ton more tq down low than a non restricted Camaro we finished up earlier that day on the dyno. Both made equal hp though.
I was reading where a guy was welding a TiAL 55mm waste gate to the outlet side of the blower housing. He was running a 8lb spring and saw something like 80-100rwtq over the non waste gate blower set up at the same peak boost. I feel the waste gate may be the more appropriate way to limit the boost out put and could give you the leeway to adjust on the fly or the track given proper weather and fuel. No more pulley changes.
I also remember that the 3.85 pulley was about as small as you could go on the P1 with a 6 rib set up back in the day. What can we get down to now with the dedicated 8 rib drive? 3.70? What about over driving the crank pulley. With the cam lock system it should be pretty easy to run a larger lower pulley if the space permits. I know I am going to be bleeding off a bunch of boost with my H/C/E/IM/TB set up. I would be really happy to get the P1 to 10-12lbs of boost in the end.
750rw should get me to my goals.
