Have you ever looked at the calibration on the newer GM engines? There is a lot more to tuning now then there every was back in the 80's and 90's. So many tables all cross reference each other now. Plus the new LTx series engine controllers reference actual torque output in order to determine how much power/torque you get delivered when you step on the pedal.

The only way to fix any lag issues are via a custom calibration, no other way around that. No 3rd party black boxes are going to work miracles anymore.
