I could, in fact, be completely full of shit though For reference, I ran faster this past weekend with stock wheels/tires than I did the weekend before with 305 Nitto's. I did finally stop driving this car like a Miata, and the track was much better so I think those were the main factors. Ill be interested to see how the next event goes next weekend, I plan to swap back and forth to get a better understanding. Nitto's obviously have more grip, and will be faster once I figure out the best set up. That may be trying 305/325 to keep the stagger, or it might mean finding some 11's for the front. We'll see. I'm becoming more intrigued by the idea of using z28 wheels or looking at the zl11le wheels when they come out. MRR can't make me a 19x11 +11 it appears.

I see. I was thinking that. I also had to adjust my S2000 lines and learn to be smoother once again (on the 1LE) as I didn't track a V8 for a while

I wouldn't worry about the wheel widths that much especially on tires like Bridgestone RE71R, R888 or NT01s since they already have stiff sidewalls. I know it may not be the ultimate size of wheels for those tires and can use a little bit of stretch but fitting 11" wheels up front and gaining a bit more weight are also need to be considered. For the reference, going with .5" wider wheels only means .2" additional section width and that's on 6" wheel the gain might be even smaller on a wider wheel.

For tires with softer sidewalls (Trofeo Rs..for instance), however, may benefit more from the wheel width

In other words, the feel of the steering wheel might be slightly better but it doesn't necessarily translate to faster lap times.

Note: The overall diameter of a steel belted radial is determined by the steel belts, there is little, if any, change to the overall diameter of the tire due to differences in rim width.

The industry rule of thumb is that for every 1/2" change in rim width, the tire's section width will correspondingly change by approximately 2/10".

For example: a tire in the P205/60R15 size is measured on a 6.0" wide wheel and this size tire has an approved rim width range from 5.5" to 7.5" wide. The tire has a section width of 8.23" (209mm) when mounted on a 6.0" wide wheel. If that tire were mounted on all of the rims within its approved range, the tire's approximate section width would change as follows:

Difference from
Measuring Rim RimWidth Approximate TireSection Width
0.5" narrower 5.5" 8.03"
Measuring Rim 6.0" 8.23"
0.5" wider 6.5" 8.43"
1.0" wider 7.0" 8.63"
1.5" wider 7.5" 8.83"
