Track prep is key. I can get way better launches on the street than an unprepared track. I took my car to grudge wars on Saturday night and was like you. Only got 3 runs in during almost 3 hours of running and lining right back up. My 60' was between 2.0 and 2.25 on those 3 runs, slowing down each pass I made.
I go back to the same track the next day during a Ky True Street rental and pull off two 1.8 60's (1.89 and 1.84) in way worse DA all because of track prep. I also gained .5 sec through the quarter. That was running in the right lane which had several passes on it before I ran. I would liked to have tried the left lane that had been freshly prepped with only 3 or 4 passes made, but I was just getting slipped in at the end of the day since I was on stock rubber and the host didn't want any street tires messing up the prep work. They even added me to their top 10 list. I managed the 8th fastest time even though I was the only one on street tires.
