I'm the opposite, I don't see any issues with grip on the wheel and can easily corner it with one hand w/o slippage.. I think part of it is going to be around the circumference of your hands when grasped to varying levels of closure, along with applied muscular force and whether or not your hands perspire a lot.
Now when I get back in our 2016 2SS with the leather wrapped wheel, I don't like it and it feels thicker to me than the suede ZL1 wheel.
