I guess I haven't noticed it as much on my 2016, but it was horrendous on my 2013. I ended up getting a ported throttle body and cold air intake. This combination made the car much better. I eventually added the VTC as well which I like for the initial tip in or whatever you call it.

I agree with you that the VTC will not stop the condition you demonstrated as it does nothing for WOT.
