So I did't clean the mating surfaces, but replaced the lug nuts with the Gorilla locking ones and torqued them to 125 ft/lbs. What I did notice when removing the stock lug nuts was that some came loose without much effort while there were a few that were nice and tight. I took the car out for a spirited run this weekend and did not hear the noise, I re-torqued everything for good measure when I got home.
