Last time I saw the manual I thought it still said recommended break-in procedures. Again, if it were that black and white of an issue would be a lot stronger language than that. A recommendation is not a "thou shall not" statement.

Exactly right, these cars are going to last for the length of the warranty pretty easy no matter how you break it in.
It up to you to figure out how to keep it going after that.
