Exactly my point Eric SS. The load/no-load situation is when the engine is under the MOST stress. If there is a defective part in the engine from the beginning (and I think we can all agree now that there was) this is the type of situation where the failure will occur. Going from nearly WOT to part throttle/no throttle in and of itself does not cause engine failure and I never meant to imply that it did, only that certain areas of the performance envelope will expose a defective part (in Vintages case, a bad piston).
