After reading the replies to my post, I figured, nothing ventured,......
First, I am NOT an audiophile, but I like a certain range of frequencies when I listen to the radio. The system in the 1SS is ok, but to me just needed a little more bass.
I went ahead and got a pair of the 2SS rear deck speakers to install in my 1SS.
First, no way to install ON the rear deck from inside the car, so I looked at installing the speakers UP into the rear deck from the trunk.
Had to tweak the opening in three spots (didn't cut the sheet metal - just folded it over). Speaker then fit up into the opening; used license plate type plastic nuts to fit into the two square holes toward the front. Used a self drilling/tapping screw for the third mount toward the rear. A ring of foam around the speaker, and installed nice and tight. Installed this way, it is about 3/16" lower than normal, but the speaker structure funnels all sound upward.
The hardest part so far was cutting the foam insulation on the rear deck! Half inch thick and tough as leather....
Now, the wiring: I tapped into the rear speaker outputs, but as pointed out earlier, this parallel connection cuts the effective impedance to 1.33, dangerous for the amp. So I put two 6 ohm, 50 watt resistors in parallel, then put them in series with the positive output to the speakers. I figure this gives me impedance of about 4.3 ohms, which should be ok.
Hooked it up, and tried it out - works great! At least, I'm happy with the sound. The two speakers wake up the base system and for me, was well worth the afternoon it took to install.
