However, on the Dyno bone stock the R/T puts down 335 - 340 at the wheels. The SRT 360 to 365 at the wheels.
Average drive train loss on a 6 speed is typically accepted at 15%.
400 x .85 = 340
So in reality, the R/T is really a 390 - 400 horse power motor at the crank and the SRT is 425. The SRT does have a forged crank where the R/T does not and the SRT has oil squirters aimed at the under side of the pistons as well that the R/T does not have. I believe the SRTs piston rods may have an improvement as well. However, it seems both engines have the same weak point, that being the pistons. For a stock configuration it's marvelous the amount of improvement the new 5.7L has (about 90HP over last years model thanks to heads and cam design). However, the final ring land on the piston is about 3mm from the top. You can see where that'd become the weak point in a forced induction application. I had planned to have a blower by now...but I may not get one at all due to that problem.
The Brembo brakes are the other big draw to the SRT, but 60 to 0 stopping distance is only 6 feet shorter in the SRT. Now, it may be able to do that same distance over and over and over where the R/T would fade...no one that I know of has actually tested that. However, most of the SRT guys are getting rid of their SRT pads as they create a lot of black dust.
Unless it's 500HP it's not really anything special in my eyes. If Dodge releases the 500HP 6.4L, then the SRT would be worth it's CURRENT price. As of now, both the R/T and SRT are over priced at MSRP.
I was going to buy a Camaro originally. But I couldn't get a dealer to deal on one and I don't pay MSRP period. I ended up with the Challenger because the local Chevy dealer let me walk out over a $2500 GSU discount they didn't wanna honor.
Dodge announced EP+++ back in Feb and that made the Challenger I bought 6,000 off MSRP and 0% financing for 4 years. It was only offered for a few days and I was one of the lucky few that snagged one before Dodge realized what they'd done. The SRT's weren't on the promotion when I bought mine and that made an SRT nearly $11,000 more than the R/T I bought. I'm sure you can see why I made the decision I did.
A few VERY lucky folks actually got SRTs on EP+++. I think Dodge had it on those for about 4 days before they yanked it because of dealer complaints.
The rest as they say is history.

Ok
what about the handling capabilities of the car? From what I've gathered the SRT is supposed to be the better handling by far out of the two.
