Oil doesn't lose its availability to lubricate at elevated temperatures, it just gets thinner.
250F isn't terrible for quality synthetics. Adding an thermostatic oil cooler while beneficial you may have warranty issues associated with it.
Op should be OK since his car wasn't modded obviously an engine defect caused the failure guess we will hear once he gets it back.
