At the risk of getting flamed by some people, I'll just state the truth: Japanese cars hold their value better than American cars.
I had a 2000 Honda Prelude 5 speed I bought brand new in Dec. of 1999. I owned it until May of 2010. It had 225,000 miles and some rust when I sold it, and I still got $3000 - put it up on craigslist for $3500 on a Thursday and that Friday I had a guy call and offer me the 3k sight unseen.
Those FJs were cool. I drove a 6 speed once - man those gauges are tiny though!
