I'd be willing to bet that 6th Gen sales are about what GM expected. While the Gen 6 is a new platform, and in that regard a new car, it is still an evolution of the previous generation. The 5th Gen came out with a radical new design after an eight year hiatus for the iconic name plate, so yeah, sales were through the roof the first few years.

The 6th Gen, trim level for trim level is not that much more than the 5th Gen. In fact, many of the things you had to pay for in the 5th Gen are now standard on the 6th Gen.

Price? Well, yeah, $40K+ is a lot of money for a car, but for a car at these performance levels? It's still a bargain, even in the turbo 4 and V6 levels (at their relative price points).

Now, I love those car shows the O.P. is talking about. I would love nothing more than a 1st gen resto mod convertible, you bet. Drop an LS3 in it, with a nice coil over suspension, and custom interior. $30,000 all in, might be a little conservative, but even at that price it requires one thing, cash money. Now, I don't know about all you folks, but reaching into the wallet and pulling out $30K in cash right now isn't gonna happen.
