Yep, that's likely the explanation(s).
A lot of people buy cars like these in the thrill of the moment only to realize they're not practical daily drivers or primary transports for people with families.
People also sometimes look at a $600 a month car payment, and another $100-$150 on top of that for insurance and go "You know, $700 a month is a lot to tie up in this car" and then trade it in.
