They made you pay 350 for a chip on a loaner's windshield? I admit this has never happened to me but that seems awfully tacky. Is the dealer not insured for such events?
Also, I wouldn't let something like this scare the crap out of you. It's windshield glass. They get chipped and crack sometimes. It's kind of a fact of life and out of your control. I think putting an aftermarket film, and especially tint, on your windshield is ill advised, especially if the reason is solely to try to mitigate the risk of chips or cracks. Have you looked into glass coverage with your insurance? It is rather cheap coverage and often included with your comprehensive coverage.
That aside, $350 for an OEM windshield is frankly dirt cheap.
