On the 5th gen, this can happen if you start the car shortly after you previously had it running for a while in hot weather. It can also happen if the battery has a low voltage when cranking the engine or during other times when there's load on the electrical system.
The bottom line is that if Stabilitrak has indeed failed, the expected behavior is that a warning would appear on the DIC every time you start the car and would need to be manually cleared. If this isn't what you're seeing, then it hasn't really failed.

This is similar to what I read about my Acadia. Got the intermittent warning. No DTC's logged on my scantool. Dealer said there will be no code for them to pull with any special tools like a tech2. After about a month the intermittent warnings stopped.
