GM (and Ford) designed that trans for many more purposes than the ZL1. It's not a track only transmission at all however, stuffing it into the ZL1 is making a statement pertaining to it's durability and strengths. It has benefits over the 8 spd trans simply because it keeps the engine in it's sweet spot while going down track. Soon enough it will be available in Chevy trucks.
