The Springfield is a quality, reproduction of the old trapdoor carbine , with modern, high quality steel. That said; the trapdoor action is still quite weak. I would stick to the standard factory .45-70 loads which are loaded with these weaker actions in mind.

Do NOT try any of the Buffalo Bore or other higher pressure loads, loaded for modern Marlins, etc.

You own a neat piece of History. Enjoy it. I once owned a full rifle in .50-70 that was surprisingly accurate back as a kid in the late 1960's. I had to cast the #515141 lead slugs with a near hundred year old mold. Then loaded the five .50-70 cases that came with the rifle with black powder.
