For me spending money on something that I am not financially profiting from is a splurge. That being said any new car is a splurge for different people from different income levels. Let it be an economical sedan, sports car or a luxury vehicle. The moment you get it out of that showroom you have lost money. I do not have a mortgage(I rent) so can afford a loan on a slightly more expensive car of my choice(at least that's what I feel), vs just getting something as just a means of transportation. That being said I did do the math of where I want to be in terms of payments and yes I did wait for the 20% rebate from Chevy instead of spending 48k on the car. At the end it is still a splurge because this is money I am not going to get back, but the memory of driving a power packed V8 is something I will cherish my entire life.
