This is the result of the mode door not closing all the way, or leaking when closed.
It is not tolerable.
Two fixes to tell your service dept.:
1. Mode door actuator is out of adjustment - hopefully all it needs is an adjustment.
2. Get at the bugger and put weatherstripping on the door to seal it.
I did this on my 3rd gen when I was a Chevy Tech. Whole instrument panel had to come out to access the mode door and make it seal.
Had 06 Mazda6 that did same thing. Service dept repaired it thoroughly.
