I would describe my growl as mild but it happened every cool day upon first start when turning. As I read through all the posts , panic set it as I read about differential replacements , metal in the oil and the sound returning after draining and refilling. If anything I wanted to drain the oil and check for damage and then refill. I read post after post about people draining and refilling with the recommended AC Delco and the noise went away (rarely) or the noise went away and then returned (most common). I didn't want to drain and refill with the exact fluid that was supposedly causing the issue to begin with so I purchased a high end gear oil that meets or exceeds GM specs and at least try something new as I have not read much about people trying a different brand of fluid. I drained my original fluid (after a long drive) and it looked normal. No metal , no burnt smell. I refilled using the name brand fluid and proceeded to do figure 8's for several minutes. At this point the fluid was already warm so I couldn't make a decision on if it made a difference yet. It's been 4 days and mornings into the high 30's and I have not experienced any noises what so ever. Before it would make noise every single time. Maybe the noise will return. I don't know. I am posting this not to start a gear oil debate (that's why I left out the name of the brand) but to share my experience on this topic. To each his own but I am happy with my findings.
