The one on the 1LE (and ATS-V & Stingray..) is a mechanical limited slip differential that's electronically controlled - this is what you want!. I think the BMW one you are thinking of that performs terribly is an open diff which utilizes the rear brakes (one side at a time) in an effort to mimic a LSD. Read some road test articles on the Stingray and ATS-V.. I've seen nothing but praise for the *real* eLSD.
