I have a base model V6 manual. I have 2200 miles on the clock; I estimate that 800 were highway, although most of it involved revving and shifting up and down during break-in rather than steady-state cruising. The rest is a combination of 30-40 mph roads and nasty Miami stop-and-go traffic.
Based on the information display, my lifetime average is between 22 and 23, and my best 50 mile average is 33. When I compare this to manually calculating, it has been very close, maybe 3-4% optimistic.
The fuel consumption is on par with my tuned 2.0 turbo GTI, though the fuel cost is 25%+ lower because I run the recommended 87 octane.
Of course, another person driving the same car in the same conditions might get completely different numbers. I don't drive very fast but I do spur it every now and then and sometimes cruise at a higher RPM because it sounds great. I rationalize it by claiming I'm preventing carbon build up.
