Indeed it is. If the side windows can do it, the sunroof should too. They can't claim it's for safety since the same technology that prevents crushing something in the side windows would work for the top.
I asked about this at the factory fest and the response I got was essentially along the lines of "huh, didn't know the manual said that". Really wish GM would actually answer the question officially.
