I just read the transcript from a 30 min dev video from apple on CarPlay and programming for CarPlay. The phone is the controller/go between. In the video they talked about putting info up on the instrument cluster as being a core aspect of the CarPlay subsystems, in fact it shares same subsystem as one that interacts with steering wheel controls and other things.

They made no mention of having to get auto manufacturers to update hardware/software to implement this.

Unless I totally misunderstood the video, it is a coding thing on the apple side. So this makes me think it hasn't been implemented into iOS 10 yet because the full release notes for 10 didn't mention this feature. In past full release notes if a CarPlay change occurred it was listed.

I'm hoping its a switch from Apple and not an update from GM.

I even looked at some other car forums and they are just as lost as we are with same answers.

Hmm maybe we should ask apple. Anyone done this yet?
