A camaro buyer is one of two people.
1. Wants a car that looks fast but is cheaper than buying a high performance car.

2. Someone who wants a cheap fast looking car and wants to do things to it to make it perform how it looks.

When you've done #2's job for them, you've priced it out of most of your market for both #1 and #2.

The action seems pretty intentional, so the question is if the rebranding of the camaro as a high performance luxury competing coupe is going to work out for them better than a budget performance car meant to just look fast and depend on the aftermarket to drive sales. The former being the traditional camaro marketplace.
