When you trade in a vehicle you only pay the tax on the difference, so essentially if you work your deal correctly you are only going to have to pay for license and registration which in most cases will be around $600.

Just drive it until you need new tires and trade it in. Let the dealership know when they come across a day they are ready to "make a good deal" to give you a call.

If you are willing to play it cool, you would be amazed at what kind of deals you can get on certain days. Might not be the exact color you want. lol
Not every state has those tax breaks.
